A lecture series on ‘Advances in Materials and Manufacturing’ has been organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering to enhance the knowledge of the students, research scholars and faculty members on the modern materials and their manufacturing methods. The first lecture had been conducted on 03.02.2023 at 9.30 a.m. in Thanam Hall. Dr. A. Velayudham, Visiting Professor, Anna University, Chennai was consented to be the guest speaker and presented the lecture in the topic of ‘Modern Manufacturing Processes for Advanced Materials’. He has worked as a scientist in DRDO and joined in Anna University as a visiting professor after his retirement. The programme started with the KPR Anthem. Mr.SP.Madhan, III year Mechanical – B section welcomed the gathering. Then, Dr.S.Ramesh Babu, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering addressed the gathering regarding the ‘Purpose of the Lecture’. Mr.S.Gokul, II year Mechanical – A section introduced the guest speaker to the gathering, telling his achievements, experience and expertise. Then, the session was handed over to the guest speaker. He engaged with the students with his interactive session. He presented about the different kinds of materials used in the manufacturing of various defense equipment. He shared his experience during he was working in different defense projects. He explained about the special kind of materials and non-conventional machining processes. During Q&A sessio, he addressed the query of the students and clarified their doubts. The session was concluded by the Vote od Thanks, which was delivered by Ms.P.Kavya, III year Mechanical – B section. The programme was ended with the national Anthem.
After the lecture session, a panel discussion was arranged between the faculty members and the guest speaker. The discussion was started by 11.00 a.m. and extended up to 12.30 p.m. During the discussion, the faculty members interacted with the guest speaker regarding the funding opportunities from various agencies. The guest speaker has thrown a light on different research areas, where the funding opportunities can be tapped-out.
