The "Mentoring Minds and Building Teams" session was organized to help first-year faculty members understand the importance of mentoring, collaboration, trust, and effective communication in fostering a positive academic environment. The programme emphasized the faculty's role as mentors who not only facilitate academic learning but also inspire, guide, and support students in their overall personal and professional development.
The session focused on developing empathy, strengthening mentor–student relationships, and promoting student well-being through effective mentoring practices. Participants were introduced to simple mindfulness and grounding techniques to enhance emotional regulation, self-awareness, and positive interactions with students.
A series of interactive activities, including the Balloon Bursting Activity and Rocket Activity, encouraged teamwork, reflection, problem-solving, shared leadership, and active participation. These activities demonstrated the importance of collaboration, mutual trust, and collective decision-making in building cohesive and high-performing academic teams.
The programme also provided opportunities for faculty members to strengthen interpersonal relationships, enhance communication skills, and reflect on their responsibilities as mentors. Overall, the session fostered a collaborative mindset and equipped participants with practical strategies to create a supportive, student-centred learning environment while contributing effectively to the institution's academic excellence and team culture.
