Workshop Highlights

  • The workshop was conducted over six days with a balanced combination of theoretical sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations.

  • Participants were introduced to ROS 2.0 architecture, DDS-based communication, and advantages of ROS 2.0 over ROS 1.

  • Detailed sessions were conducted on:

    • Fundamentals of Swarm Robotics

    • Multi-robot coordination and communication

    • Node, topic, service, and action concepts in ROS 2.0

    • Swarm behavior algorithms and use cases

  • Hands-on sessions included:

    • Setting up ROS 2.0 environments

    • Developing and simulating multi-robot systems

    • Implementing basic swarm behaviors

  • Real-time industry case studies and live demonstrations were shared by the resource person, providing strong practical insights.

Participation and Engagement

  • Students actively participated in discussions, practical sessions, and problem-solving activities.

  • The interactive approach adopted by the resource person enhanced student engagement and clarity of concepts.

  • Participants gained exposure to industry-relevant tools and workflows used in robotic startups and R&D environments.

Actual Outcomes of the Workshop

By the end of the workshop, the participants were able to:

  • Understand the core principles of Swarm Robotics and their applications.

  • Work confidently with ROS 2.0 framework for multi-robot systems.

  • Develop basic swarm coordination programs using ROS 2.0.

  • Gain awareness of industrial applications, research opportunities, and startup ecosystems in robotics.

  • Enhance technical competency, problem-solving skills, and readiness for advanced robotics projects.

Overall Impact

The workshop successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and industrial practices in robotics. It strengthened the students’ foundation in ROS-based robotic systems and motivated them to pursue advanced projects, internships, and research in robotics and automation. The program added significant value to the activities of the Centre of Excellence – Robotics and Automation.
