Event Description: Imposter Syndrome in Academia
Imposter Syndrome is the persistent feeling of self-doubt, inadequacy, and the fear of being exposed as a "fraud" despite evidence of competence and achievement. Many research scholars experience these thoughts while pursuing academic and professional goals.
This session will explore the signs, symptoms, and psychological impact of imposter syndrome through engaging discussions and experiential activities. Participants will take part in a unique Movie Spoof Team Activity, where groups will enact common imposter syndrome thoughts, emotions, and behaviours often experienced by scholars, followed by an alternative scene demonstrating healthier perspectives, self-confidence, and adaptive coping strategies.
The session aims to:
- Increase awareness of imposter syndrome in academic settings.
- Help scholars identify self-limiting thoughts and behaviours.
- Encourage self-compassion and realistic self-appraisal.
- Promote confidence, resilience, and psychological well-being.
Join us for an insightful and interactive experience that transforms self-doubt into self-growth.
